At any cost
by Milota Sidorova

It's certainly an interesting watch to see a performance of American politicians handling the battle of healthcare reform. It's also certainly to see the reaction of American people. Two wills opposing each other. While President Obama pushes hard to get each vote possible, while Democratic allies promise to launch great advertising campaign with the most unusual target group – 17 Democratic Senators who voted against the bill and the Service Employees International Union threatens Senators taking away its support if the bill loses again, at that very moment each relevant public opinion poll shows the majority of American people is against the proposed reform.Misunder! standing may be a reason too, the process has been lasting more than a year, Government is keeping the policy of a dead bug, nervously keeping every information guarded till the very last moment. According observers, public has not been properly informed with the details of the bill.Public is not the only one without information – some politicians openly suggest they haven't read the bill as well. Here we go for instance with Democrat Henry Waxman. The line could continue. The misunderstanding comes with more variations of the bill – the original proposal has been updated several times and its original content is really far away from current idea. The form, however doesn't meet the agreement of both parties. The pressure on politicians and president rises. President doesn't hide he wants every vote possible. That means to unite his Democratic troop which seems to be only a matter of time. Although more than dozen of Democratic Sentators agreed with Republicans' o! bjections and stopped the bill in Congress for few months, som! e of the m may change their minds. Among mind flexible Senators is now even Republican James Oberstar of Minnesota. No doubt President is willing to pass the reform, since it has been one of his strongest pre-election issues. He wants it because Democrats lost the crucial majority in the Congress to pass reforms with literally no problems. He wants it so bad also because of November elections that could reflect the power of the party. Where is the ordinary citizen with his opinion, one doesn't know. Politicians don't consider the polls, that is a fact. What a performance!
