Sanofi recalling some H1N1 vaccine, CDC says

800,000 doses of pediatric H1N1 swine flu vaccine is not as potent as it should be and therefore its maker Sanofi-Aventis SA is recalling all the doses. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ask people to do not panic as there is no safety concern and the CDC said children who have already been vaccinated from it do not need to be vaccinated again. The CDC sent a special message to state and local health officers, public information officers and doctors' groups in which they stated that the affected vaccines were for children under age 3. A spokesman of CDC told reporters that about 800 thousands doses of the affected vaccine have already been distributed ! to providers. The CDC said that the mistake was recognized by quality assurance testing program. The company immediately informed the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The lots with affected vaccines, which were distributed in November, did not have any specific destination. The antigen content in the lots is below the limit for the product. Therefore both CDC and FDA agreed that the small decrease in antigen content will not cause any significant reduction in immune among people who have been vaccinated from the lots. The U.S. had difficulty to get enough vaccine to people, because to many people wanted it and companies were not able to make it quickly. The CDC said that swine flu has killed 10,00 Americans since March and 200,000 people were hospitalized. The vaccines against swine flu have been criticized a lot, public still do not believe it completely and many parents do not allow their children to be vaccinated in schools. This incident definitely did not! gain trust of people.
