Third of parents are against swine flu vaccine

More than a third of American parents refuse to vaccinate their children against swine flu. This information comes from poll accomplished by Associated Press-GfK. Although tests did not prove the vaccine has serious side effects, many parents are concerned about it. Others think swine flu can be threated the same way as seasonal flu and reject the vaccine thinking swine flu is not any wore than the seasonal bug. Some parents are afraid and say the vaccine is too new and untested. 38 percent of parents did not want to allow their kids to be vaccinated at school, according to the AP poll. Federal health officials refuse the accuses that the vaccine is too risky and plan ! to monitor side affects. They appease people saying the swine flu vaccine is made the same way as vaccine against seasonal flu that have been used for years and they note that volunteers, including children, did not have any scary side effects. 72 percent parents worry about side effects. However, more than half said it would not stop them to vaccinate their children. Parents are also just getting used to the idea of giving flu shots to schoolchildren. Doctor Matthew Davis from a University of Michigan Medical School said it normally took a while for parents to accept a new vaccine and added it took year for immunization rates to grow. Many states plan to create special swine flu vaccination clinics at schools because children are tha main spreaders of the disease. 59 percent of parents said they would allow their children to be vaccinated at school.
