Swine flu: 10 things you should know...
by Barbora Misakova
From the day when a human kind found out there is something like swine flu, the panic began. Information we had was incomplete and so the fear can spread quickly. Some people are trustful too much and so easily started to believe everything they hear about this virus. Numbers saying about 1000 sickened and 500 killed Americans and tens of thousands infected around the world are not very pleasant numbers I have to admit. That is why Associated Press brings you list of 10 things you should know about swine flu. First of all, there is really no cause for panic. Swine flu presents the same threat as regular seasonal flu and hospitalizations and deaths seem to be lower than the ! average for seasonal flu. Positive news is that swine virus hasn’t dramatically mutated. Another important thing is that the most endangered are children under 2, pregnant women and people with health problems (such as asthma or diabetes). Interesting about the swine flu is that while seasonal flu hits older people the most, swine flu doesn’t – it is probably because of immunity the older people have from the previous viruses and diseases. Third rule is: wash your hands often and long and with soap. Associated Press recommends getting the kids vaccinated and getting the shots early because immunity takes awhile. To be fully protected, you need two shots but there are three weeks apart them and after the last one it takes a week or two to take full effect. So if you are still not vaccinated, be cautious – try to stay away from public gathering places, wash your hands and keep them away from eyes, nose and mouth. And one last thing – you can̵! 7;t catch swine flu from pork! So if you have swine flu sympto! ms call your doctor right away and consult it with him immediately.
