Chris Cantell Discusses Health: Watch out what you eat
by Barbora Misakova
We had brilliant lunch yesterday. Me, my parents and some friends of mine were in the restaurant and we had pretty nice time. Eating good food, drinking wine and beer and celebrating one special event. And actually none of us was thinking if the meal is O.K. Why should we? We were in the restaurant, so everything was supposed to be clean and done well. So we were just enjoying delicious food and the atmosphere. Few days ago I realized one thing – we trust people we never met or know. With no problems we just sit on the bus which is driven by some bus driver. We don't know him so how could we know about his abilities? Is he a good driver? What if he drinks? What if he had a bad night and he would need more sleep? How is it possible we are not asking these questions every time we are getting on the bus? The same is with the restaurants. How do we know that the chef is a real cook? How could we know he knows how to prepare food without poisoning us? I know these questions are quite silly, but anyway – who has ever asked them? No one. The truth is that we are in many cases trusting foreign people, we believe in their abilities, professionalism and knowledge. And then we are surprised or shocked when something bad happened.Just like now – 1,000 people in the U.S. was infected by salmonella. How did it happen? That's still a question. All assumes lead to raw tomatoes especially three types – red round, plum and Roma. Even though the investigation is still running, all consumers were stressed to avoid them and also some types of hot peppers until the Food and Drug Administration inspectors find areas which could be responsible for the harvest. In the investigation are concluded also other types of vegetable and that's why I am asking again – is there anything we can entirely trust in?
