Chris Cantell Discusses Health: Hamburgers without tomatoes
by Zuzana Fabcinova
McDonald's (and some other chains of restaurants offering fast-food, like Burger King, Taco Bell or Outback Steakhouse) has halted sales of raw tomatoes due to an outbreak of salmonella infection in multiple states in the USA. Pity, because tomatoes rank among those less numerous McDonald's food which are healthy and non-caloric. Now, after a tomatoes restriction, millions of Americans are going to eat even less healthy food.McDonald's, the biggest chain of fast-food restaurant all over the world, primary sells meals like hamburgers, cheeseburgers and French-fries, most of which contains little amount of some kind of vegetables, often tomatoes. Without these tomatoes, a hamburger is going to be sweet roll with a piece of meat fried in loads of oil. (I can't imagine the taste, because vegetables is what makes food tasty for me, but never mind that.) I doubt whether the fact that all burgers are now tomatoes-free changes the attitude to them and makes the Americans give up their beloved meal during lunch break. Of course, McDonald's is quick, comfortable, cheap (low prices are one of the basic principles of “Mickey D's”) and always at hand (50 % of Americans live within a maximum 3-minutes drive from nearest McDonald's). For the Americans, who are always in a hurry, McDonald's is simply ideal way to satisfy our primary need – to receive food. If there are hundreds of things you have to do and you realize that you surely won't manage to do them all, you just don't care about such an obvious thing as food. You usually eat something very quickly without even thinking about what you are eating and keep on working. That's the way it works with McDonald's. Quickly and without thinking whether it by accident harms your body.
