Smoking not only stinks, but even kills
by Sandra Stoklaskova

Are you a smoker? If yes, think about it. If not, it is your benefit. Smoking is a process of inhaling nicotine, which is very addictive. Sometimes the smoking is not about fulfilling the necessity, but about psychological aspect, that you need it to be satisfied. Around 4,000 children from 12 to 17 every day begin with this habit. These numbers are horrible. And not only are these, but also the amount of money spent by smokers every year on cigarettes. The last report of World Health Organization says that use of tobacco killed 100 million people across the globe during the 20th century. More over it remarks, that if things will go on in this style, 1 billion people around the world will die due to this vice in the 21st century. It also appeals to the governments to do something with this and to interpose. They can not let people die and purchase from their addiction. According to the report, governments around the world collect more than $200 billion in tobacco taxes every year but spend less than one-fifth of 1 percent of that revenue on tobacco control. "We hold in our hands the solution to the global epidemic that threatens the lives of 1 billion men, women and children during this century, "said Dr. Margaret Chan, WHO Director-General. The research showed, that more than 66 percent of smokers live in 10 countries, from which 30 percent in China and 10 percent in India. The most smokers are from low and middle income countries. The WHO claims the governments to accept six tobacco control policies, which include raising taxes and prices for tobacco; ban tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship; protecting people from second hand smoke; warning people about the tobacco's dangers; helping people who want to quit smoking; and monitoring tobacco use to understand and reverse the epidemic, said report.
