The results, continuously published in European Heart Journal showed the jumping blood pressure of more than 140 volunteers. Their pressure was measured every 15 minutes while they slept in their homes near London's Heathrow airport. Alarming results found that an increase in night time airplane noise of 10 decibels increased the risk of high blood pressure by 14 percent in both men and women. The rising blood pressure can cause temporary or persistent hypertension, one of the main risks for strokes, heart attacks, heart failure and arterial aneurysm, and is a leading cause of chronic renal failure. This fragile inner control system reacts very sensible on every change. Also moderate elevation of arterial blood pressure leads to shortened life. As a matter of fact, the statistics admit hypertension along with overwight among the most serious health problems of our century. Lowered comfort of living near the airport causing serious health problems of citizens rose up the wave of protests in U.S. in 60ties. The aircraft noise became a widespread topic that forced U.S. government decreed using of low-noise producing engines and tried to solve the problem from the beginning. One of the alternatives were floating airports, the airports situated far out to the sea. The major disadvantages that stopped the project were extremely high cost and time expenses for travelers to reach the sea.Until the solution will come out, the citizens living near the inner city airports will barely suffer.
