Yahoo!Video
by Claudia Sonea

On May 5th, 2005, Yahoo launched a video search engine, but only in 2006 it launched the improved version that is a mix between a traditional video search engine, which crawls and links off to videos on different web sites, and a Web 2.0 service that offers users the possibility to upload, share, tag, and host their videos on Yahoo!, offering an embedded player experience. The graphic it's appealing, still it has a big disadvantage because it doesn't offers the option full screen. However, it still has some technical problems while loading and Yahoo! Video does not work for users of Linux and recommends Windows XP/Mac OS X and Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari. Yahoo! Video is a free service providing users with a means to search and play videos directly from Yahoo! Video, save them to their 'favorites' page, subscribe to channels for video sources, and embed videos on their web pages and blog posts. I would not choose it in favor of Youtube or Google Video due to the fact that I can't get full screen and people with Linux can't use it even if they would want. For an Internet addicted definitely Yahoo! Video seems a little bit rudimentary and needs some new features at least to get to the level of other social networks if not to overcome them. Don't believe everything you hear, just go ahead and try it, you might find it differently. It doesn't cost anything and who knows it might turn out to be just the thing you were looking for. Surf on!
