The most fatal diseases
by Martina Harvanova

Bird flu, SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) or other less "popular" diseases have so far raised a great deal of concerns among the world-spread public in the issue of the health. The worries about the life are the most vital ones and mainly this is why the disputes about the illnesses are so spotted by everyone. However, the most deadly pandemic in human history was admittedly The Black Death, or the Black Plague. The "health disaster" probably began in Central Asia and spread to Europe by the late 1340s. Allegedly, no other disease took such an overwhelming number of lives, as the rate of deaths worldwide is estimated at 75 million people. Europe's population was the majority of the victims (50 million deaths) and the situation grew in such a scale that the plague killed 60% of Europe's population. The danger increased mostly because of the diversity of the illness, as there were more than 100 plagues with varying factors. Another fatal century was the 17th one, when the people had almost no chance to escape it. It was too enormous. Furthermore, the issue caused the change in the mentality of humans. As the sociologists claim: "The uncertainty of daily survival created a general mood of morbidity, influencing people to live for the moment. The Black Death was not the only mortal and extremely dangerous disease that hit the humans. Scientists and health specialists have created a scale of "Top 10 Mysterious diseases" that are deemed the most fatal ones as well as the illnesses no one can fully foretell and avoid. The last, but not the less harmful one is Morgellons Disease followed by Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. The eight mysterious illness is Creutzfeld-Jakob Disease. Mental disorders, delusions or lack of emotions refer to Schizophrenia. On the sixth spot in the scale there is Autoimmune Disorder, illness that is chronic, always debilitating and doctors can do little except ease their symptoms. Another interesting but very unpleasant disease is Pica accompanied by the urge to eat non-food substances like dirt, paper, glue and clay. Fourth place belongs to Avian Flu. Surprisingly, the Common Cold is deemed the third most mysterious illness as doctors still know very little about the reason of an estimated billion cases of sickness just in the U. S. Alzheimer disease is on the second place and the list begins with the AIDS. Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome was first identified 25 years ago and remains the world's number one killer, especially in developing countries. No matter what scientists say about the intensity and number of victims caused by the mentioned diseases, from my point of view, there is just one world-wide problem in the health case. The stress, enormously fast lifestyle, pollution affecting everybody, pesticides in the food and other aspects form the biggest threat to us. Civilization diseases.
