A miraculous recovery

Australian doctors have probably found the first signs of The Holy grail of transplantance surgery: immuno- tolerance. Last Thursday the case of young australian girl and her miraculous recovery came out to public. Now 15-year old Demi-Lee Brennan six years ago suffered with liver failure, when she received the bone marrow transplant. Nine months later doctors discovered, that her blood types had changed and that her immune system had switched over to that of the donor, said AFP. Dr. Michael Stormon, a hepatologist that is treating her said, that he had given several presentations on the case around the world and had not heard of none like this. Stormon explained her case on the fact that Demi-Lee had a bone marrow transplant, so "the majority of her immune system had switched over to that of the donor. " Demi-Lee is now very thankful for giving her the second chance and saving her life. Now the doctorors are interested, if Demi-Lee's case could have application also on other cases in transplant surgery, but Dr. Stormon takes it more practicaly and said, that it appeared Demi-Lee has been only fortunated, because of a "sequence of serendipitous events". Now it will be very difficoult for surgeons to try to replicate this "miracle" in other transplant patients. "The chalenge for us now is to try and figure out how this occured", said Stormon, "to try to replicate that is easier said that done....But she exemplies that this can occur."
