Gums will officially prevent teeth cavities
by Nina Gotzmannova

If you have ever believed the advertisement that chewing gum will help your teeth and decrease the risk of getting cavities, you were right. The American Dental Association approved Wrigley sugar-free gums Orbit, Extra and Eclipse are helping the teeth. Of course, several requirements must be fulfilled. It's not enough to chew gum once a day, or just for a while. To get strong teeth and anti-cavity protection man have to chew the gum three times a day and at least 20 minutes. The study, on which ADA based their approval, showed that chewing gum in this time will produce more saliva. Saliva helps to clean the teeth and let them cleaner, stronger and healthier. The seal on the product means it meets ADA requirements and has several benefits. It is already on several toothpaste or other products for dental hygiene. The director of ADA Clifford Whall said that this seal of acceptance is meant to inform customers about quality and efficiency of the product. The study was partially financed by Wrigley, because it was oriented on Wrigley chewing gum only. The company had invested more than $30.000 in the research and also donated 25.000 to support ADA health screening program. But for the ones, who hope the chewing gum can save their teeth, there is some ‘bad' news. ADA still recommends brushing teeth twice a day, using interdental cleaner and, of course, regularly visiting the dentist. The gum itself is not strong enough to protect teeth as they need to be protected.
