The end of the year usually is reserved for making recapitulations of the year that is ready to leave us. Everybody in its own way tries to come through a final result of something previously done, to be joyful of a success or maybe sum a bad period. If you analyze the newspapers and magazines, you will understand that they all make some kinds of list of the best things that happened in the previous year. I really don’t get the need of ranking things all the time, but however. And who can convince you why if something is placed on the place number six, shouldn’t take one place upper? However, these days the newspaper Time came up with few lists of the ten best t! hings in 2010. Concerning the health which is one of the most important issues for each society, Time has placed the invention of the antiretroviral pill called Truvada reduced the risk of HIV infection by 44 percent. The research was led among 2500 HIV-negative, but high risk homosexual men in six countries. Off course this is not something that should be taken as a granted. There have to be a lot more researches done so it would be proven that that’s the whole matter. But still, doctors and scientists that approve this invention think that the best way for a prevention of the deathliest disease on Earth is the safe sex and adequate contraception. One of the highest places, like the fourth on Time’s list had the approval of the Botox for curing migraines. The Food and Drug Administration said yes to a prove that was given by the producers. After some researches it was shown that people that had put Botox on their foreheads had a pain relief. I wish that med! icine will go much further in the next year, because that woul! d mean a better life quality for everyone.

Long-term aspirin treatment can reduce risk of certain types of cancer. by Milota Sidorova

Aspirin or drugs based on the same platform can reduce the risk of certain types of cancer – this is what came out of a recent study published by British team lead by Prof. Peter Rothwell. Rothwell from John Radcliffe Hospital and the University of Oxford suggested that drugs can have a positive side effect, if are taken in very low-dose portions (75 miligrams) for a very long time. To get a better perspective, 75 mg is about a quarter of a normal pill (325 mg). Long term usage (counting decades of years) resulted in 10 percent drop in death cases of prostate cancer cases, 30 percent among lung cancer patients – however only with a special type of lung cancer ! appearing among non-smokers, 40 percent among colorectal cancer cases and 60 percent among esophageal cancer patients. The results were significant after a long time – they generally appeared after 20 years of usage. The study was published on Dec 7 in online edition of The Lancet. The research was held on 25,500 patients who were under regular observations between four and eight years, but results came out after 20+. In extreme interpretation it means that a person in his/her twenties needs to start this therapy if he/she wants to reduce the risk. Rothwell warns that people shouldn´t start to take aspirin immediatelly and without conscience, since it is just a „side effect“ and there was no other study monitoring any other side effect of such long term usage. Body usually gets used to the drug that becomes finally inefficient – for example antibiotics have been failing to treat new types of bacteria diseases, since new bacteria generations have! increased its tolerance and resistance to the drug. People s! hould lo ok critically at that kind of quick solutions – no drug can save a person from cancer or any other disease, if a person doesn´t care for healthy lifestyle. So instead of expensive treatments, the best solution is avoiding a stress, proper food and enough of phyiscal excercises – but this is certainly something familiar and well known for a long time.

The whole thing began due to her thesis project. And then there was a random encounter with a woman who just couldn´t stop talking about the blind date she has just had. "She said to me, 'He left his phone at home for me. I was, like, oh, my God, that is beautiful,'" says Zweifel. And so the key concept of her thesis was born. Zweifel began with the phrase “I left my phone at home for you” stamped on buttons. However, the final product is a kerchief with the inscription “My phone is off for you.” When you wrap your phone in this kerchief you become inaccessible, it blocks call service. So if you really want to interact with other people you can do so without disturbing sound of the cellphone ringing. The thing is with technology boom the human interaction has been diminished. In business you really have to focus on human behavior, if you know what is disturbing, or on the contrary attractive to people you will know how to success. One of these social features is a relationship between parents and children – at least their behavior in several situations. Generally, if a child sees something attractive, he/she starts to demand it and although parent doesn't allow or want to give it to the child, many times child really gets it in the end. How come? Children beg, children scream, children demand and cry. And for a parent these are the most exhausting moments, I mean try to calm down the child in the shop...We could write a book about parental! nervous break downs, but we don't have such capacities...fortunatelly. But marketing divisions are reacting to this behavior and for past decade incredible amount of advertisments and products have been focused on children. If you can get a child customer, you will probably get his parents. Now try to review how many products have been designed for children customers, just go to the next McDonalds and check Happy Meal – there will be always some nice toy included to the meal. An interesting news came from San Francisco, California where the city Board of Supervisors have voted against such toys in fast foods. The reason was right targeted – toys are increasing attractivity of unhealthy food. The rule will apply for meals that have more than 640 milligrams of sodium, 600 calories or more than 34 percent of fat included in nutrition. In European conditions it would be regarded as very healthy and proper step, but it may be perceived differently. For many busines! smen it is a step against their own „freedom“, but! on the other side it is people right to create laws on their own. Personally I am very curious about how it is going to be, because so far San Francicsco Mayor has anticipated this step. But the board voted 8-3 and still has a great power to ignore Mayor's veto, if necessary.

Since I lost my beloved Motorola, I am not interested in mobile phones as much as I used to be. I told myself, it was very stupid from me to invest so much money into a piece of metal and plastic that was after all so easily stolen! From that time I am using very small and cheap cell phone which is always forgotten at different place without realizing it. And to be honest, this is for the first time I actually don’t care where my cell phone is! And it is also for the first time in my mobile-history, that I am not taking it everywhere I go. As it seems, it is better than good. There are many warnings against carrying cellular and smart phones in a closely sewn pocket. ! Most of the safety manuals of the cell phones tell users to always keep the active device one full inch away from their body. Skeptics of the safety of cellular phones have these warnings even stressed. According to them, the ubiquitous devices may be exposing people to far more radiation than regulators measure. More the distance of cellular phone is reduced; sharper is the radio-frequency energy of it. “The exposure is definitely related to distance.” says Rober Cleveland Jr., a former FCC official. Are you asking if you should be worried about putting your phone in your pocket? The answer depends largely on how much faith you put in the current state of scientific research about radio-frequency energy.

Miracles happen everyday and everywhere, we only have to recognize them. A miracle happened these days in a Bordeaux hospital, when a cancer diagnosed patient Lydia Paillard, clinically dead, woke up! Doctors couldn't believe their eyes. Her sons before that didn't want to turn off her life-support system. Before she passed away, as the private hospital Nord Polyclinic officials said to the media, before doctors even tried to treat her with chemotherapy. When a doctor wanted to put the 60 years old lady on a ventilator, it was already too late. But, thanks to the sons' doggedness, the patient was transferred to the university hospital in Bordeaux and another scan showed tha! t their mother is not that, actually that, the brain is not dead. And now, if the lady wasn't removed from one of the hospitals, today she would have already be history to the world, but fortunately, she now is with her children and can talk and laugh... From the hospital, Yves Noel, the head of the clinic, said "that the doctor who resuscitated her had committed a communication error not a medical one as 'he saved her life.'" "It's a sort of miracle. It's unheard of. One of the doctors who examined the patient has 25 years experience in casualty and identified all the signs of clinical death. Both doctors (who examined her) conferred with their colleagues" - said Noel. I can only imagine how did the sons feel when they found out that their mother's live was in their hands. After 14 hours of coma, when the patient woke up, she said to one of her sons: "Ah, I feel so good, I had a wonderful sleep." Only if she would know through what kind of hell her sons have gone w! hile "she was having amazing time". OK, this time the patient! was luc ky, but what about if some other lady's sons weren't so persuading and just let go the life support system. What then? And now, all that the management of the "guilty" hospital is offering to the lady Paillard's family is a discussion about the so called "communication problem". But, off course, the family has decided legally to "discuss" with hospital's officials.

I remember one food experiment I have done as a teenager. During Christmas I took one cookie, made of solid white cream and put it into the fire. I didn't even know why I got the idea, but the result amazed me. The cookie started to burn and created green flames and unbearable smoke. I kept watching, but the green fire didn't stop – on the contrary, the cookie was burning for another 20 minutes and the structure of it remained the same. It didn't break or turned to dust – it remained as it was – it just turned black. That moment I became to think about the nutrition and ingredients I was eating in my daily food. If one small cookie wasn't able to burn, wha! t kind of chemicals it could deliver to my body? We know that we are living in era when half of the population suffers from cancer, alergy and overweight. And it's also caused by the quality of food. There is no one in this world who can prove that the food we are eating has the same quality as it had 20 years ago. If you don't grow it by yourself or don't buy it from local farmer, you will never be sure about it. Our supermarkets are overloaded with cheap and chemical food, full of conservants that protect the food from decomposition. My stomach suffers „heartattack“ everytime I walk around a shop and see colorful mineral water in the shop window. And I suffer heartattack the second time when I see the same bottles of colorful water three months later. And there is no difference, except of the proof of how conservants did the „good job“. Don't live in illusion and don't die in it! The food is loaded with supportive substances to gain „long! evity“ and fresh appearance even after weeks or months. ! Recentl y I found an interesting experiment with Happy Meal from McDonald's. A photographer Sally Davies decided to take a picture of this meal for six months. The results amazed me again – there was no differernce – chips and hamburger with the slice of meat did look the same, except of it was bit smaller. The photographer said its consistence was like a stone. You better check out the pictures by yourselves, there is no appropriate comment. Except of me laughing hysterically when my working colleagues will go for a lunch, chasing the last hint of civilisation – searching for McDonalds!

Hungary has a reason to call it the worst disaster in the history, Hungary has a reason to set the national sorrow day. Four villages were flooded with toxic mud of aluminium residuals, at least four people died, three were missing and more than 120 have been seriously injured – the liquid that flew out of a broken dam contained lye and rust. While rust causes no direct harm on skin contact, lye can be mortal. If swallowed it destroys the inner stomach and gastro mucous, penetrating it and leading into serious damages, often death. Still it is not very clear, how could a dam of organized ore broke down and how were the safety measures and plans when they projected su! ch object. Reservoir more than 1,000 feet (300 meters) long and 500 yards (450 meters) wide stopped leaking on Wednesday and so far a tripple-tiered wall was built around its damaged area. But the war over landscape, ground, villages, crops and people has started. Emergency troops poured 1,000 tons of plaster in order to neutralize the liquid. The major threat has increased – what if the liquid enters the Danube. This rivers flows through several countries, offers not only ship transport, but affect hydro, geology, soil regimes and thousands of thousands kilometers of ecosystems. The liquid had extremely alkaline value around 13, totally devastating to the human skin that has value around 5.5. Hungarian officials and policy has begun criminal investigation, since it's still not known how could the dam been broken and the hints point to the lack of safety measures and lax of emergency.

In every lap top manual there is a small passage about security. Actually, it is a piece of good advice, but since manuals are not very popular readings, notes are obviously misunderstood. One of these notes is to always place your notebook on solid surfaces that can reduce heating. But since notebooks are so easy to move and place and their shape is literally asking to be placed on laps. Although it is a certain damage for the hard disk and more often the notebook has been moved and placed somewhere, the shortest it will work properly, people seem to not to care about it. What seems to be interesting, perhaps bit funny is that damages are not significant only on hardware,! but also on users. Just recently doctors have developed a term for „toasted skin syndrome“ and it is nothing less than the skin damage caused by persistent heat. Although notebook can't burn the skin into the point of emergency, it can cause real troubles in long term. American doctors got a case of 12-year-old boy who spent few hours playing on his laptop for several months. The long term heat caused structural changes on his skin. The temperature in the machine can reach over 50 degrees. The worst case is when the person place the notebook directly on naked skin. The syndrome has appeared among people who were exposed to the long term heating object, for example people working in factories, bakers, glass bowers or people working with central heating. So far there has been about ten cases put into scientific journals, but inofficial statistics are reaching higher numbers. So the next time you're about to work with the notebook, think about your skin...

Show me one living being and tell me that he/she doesn’t want to live. We all have moments in our lives when we feel weak and despairing and with no sense of life saying – I don’t want to live anymore. But, that is the biggest lie that one can tell. That comes to your mind especially when you are not feeling well, or even worse, when you are sick with some cureless disease, like one of the biggest enemies of the modern human being – the cancer. No matter where you live, but especially in the US, if you have this “devil” in yourself, you will have to pay horrifying sums of money to prolong your tired out life for few months or maybe an yea! r. One would ask the question, how much is worth it few months more to live and to pay big money? OK, why would you need the money if you don’t have the life? I am certain that buying yourself minutes is priceless, and that’s why no sum seems too big enough, normally, if you can afford it. The far the medicine goes, more expensive therapies it invents. Almost 100,000 dollars cost new drug treatments. One of the newest among them can “buy” you about four months life, it is called “Provenge” and it is dedicated to men with incurable prostate tumors. That is the most common type of disease that appears in American men. With the new health care program still hasn’t decided yet whether it is going to pay for the whole sum, or only part. OK, if you had a job and Medicare covers something, that’s fine, but what if you are uninsured, as big part of Americans are, due to the recession? What would you do then? Where did all the politeness disappear? If I had a farm with chicken whose eggs might have been the cause of the 1,600 salmonella illnesses, I would stand up and apologize! I would try to look in peoples’ eyes and tell them honestly that “I am sorry.” But as it seems some people who are “hard of hearing” are using it as an apology for their inability to apologize politely. Austin “Jack” DeCoster, the owner of Wright Country Egg said he was “horrified” when he learned that his products have probably caused the illnesses. “We were horrified to learn that our eggs may have made people sick. We apologize to everyone wh! o may have been sickened by eating our eggs. I pray several times each day for all of them and for their improved health.” DeCoster said in the statement he read to the subcommittee. But I am asking, where are the times when apology was meant seriously and when it was also made in that way? Tests of the eggs from two accused chicken farms - Wright County Egg and Hillandale Farms has shown that products are positive for the bacterium Salmonella enteritidis, the strain responsible for the recent outbreak. Members of the subcommittee also showed photos of hen houses at these two farms, which were full of dead chickens, insects and piles of manure. While Peter DeCoster claims the FDA inspected the company’s feed mill in May and found no deficiencies, the FDA’s deputy commissioner said that the agency has no records of that inspection. This is the largest outbreak of this strain of salmonella since the late 1970s. No deaths have been reported so far.

Six months after the Congress voted for it, Obama is saying he was sorry he wasn’t convenient enough, today when he hears and sees a lot of good examples of people’s reactions and concrete problem solving. The whole health reform has raised a lot of dust in the country in the last year. Obama wanted to make more social health system. Many people reacted that his goal was actually go keep his electors body strong, helping” mostly to nonworking and lazy people, mostly black ones. Wanting to show the! politicians that didn’t believe in this reform, Obama gathered patients from different countries in the States, all of them good examples for how well the health care reform has reflected. That is a little bit too political idea, I mean, this marketing propaganda is like Obama says: “Hey guys, didn’t I tell you so”? Who had benefited the most from the reform? Young adults can stay on their parents’ plans until they turn 26. Preventive care and immunizations are going to be for free, which I must agree that is a good measure. All of the patients that were invited in the Virginia garden, were grateful for the change of their lives. With the Medicare, Obama wants to provide social peace in the country, but it looks like that is going to be only an ideal. Because, someone that earns more than the others, don’t want to spend a lot of money from their pocket to give to someone else. From time to time a new types of bacteria or virus appear in this world, showing great resistence to any kind of drug or chemical restraint. Recently American media reported appearence of infectious bacteria spreading from India. The genetic information of bacteria should be strong enough to ignore „nearly all antibiotcs“. So far three Americans have been infected, we know about two Canadian cases and according to British medical journal revealing risk last month, dozens of people who had traveled to India were threatened. All people showed similar signs of diseases – having gut and urinary problems. Another similarity is that the disease is spreading via ! hand-mouth contact so hygiene plays a crucial role. According official information three Americans were not related – one Californian woman had a car accident, then there was a man from Illinois who travelled around the country and Indian woman who has been held in Massachusetts recently passed surgery and chemotherapy. Germs are resistable to most of common antibiotics that logically increases pressures on drug companies to develop new one. So fare there were no exact numbers of death cases and at least between Americans all patients survived. International health organizations didn´t release any warning, but the situation may change. But still, international community may be careful, since a recent warning of swine flu became a media buble and an excuse for drug companies to sell millions and millions of unnecessary injections. For now we have to wait to see whether this bacteria turns out to be a serious problem or another hoax.

For those of us who try to learn foreign languages the worst thing to learn is accent. And even though we tried to live for some time abroad, accent is something we will never learn actually. In this way we – the strangers – are always revealed. Now imagine your accent can be changed from one day to another, but it cannot be done by learning. It is called “foreign accent syndrome”. It is a very rare medical condition which involves speech production that usually occurs as a side effect of severe brain injury such as stroke or head trauma. Kay Russell, a woman living in southwestern England suffered a severe migraine attack which left her speaking wit! h a French accent. But if you think this change brought her luck, you are wrong. Professor Nick Miller, one of the few experts in the world on foreign accent syndrome says there is no known cure and the effects can be devastating. In Kay’s life that meant loss of job, loss of confidence in public, and also loss of part of her identity. “It is not my voice I miss. I would love to have my own voice back, but it goes way, way, way beyond my voice.” she said. It wasn’t exactly clear what happened to Russell in January when the migraine attack struck and it was BBC who identified her condition as Foreign Accent Syndrome. There are only a few dozen cases across the world and these include people whose newly found accents sounded German, Spanish, Welsh, Italian or Irish. “It is not only that you don’t sound like who you are. You don’t sound like the others around you either.” added Kay.

A hoci mnohí priaznivci cudzích jazykov už skúšali žiť v zahraničí istý čas, akcent je skrátka niečo, čo sa nedá naučiť. V tomto smere sme my – cudzinci – vždy prezradení. Teraz si však predstavte, že by sa váš prízvuk mohol zmeniť zo dňa na deň, a nie učením! Volá sa to „syndróm cudzieho akcentu“. Je to extrémne z! riedkavý zdravotný stav, ktorý sa týka produkcie reči. Ide zvyčajne o vedľajší efekt vážnych zranení mozgu akými sú porážka či trauma. People in the American continent are in front of another threat. Or, maybe I should correct myself – the whole world is in front of the helplessness of the medicine’s experts to find a cure against bacteria that are resistant to almost all kinds of antibiotics. By far, people in two US countries are affected by the infectious disease and in Canada, as well. One thing is for sure – the bacteria come from India! By the way, this problem is already widespread in India and it is transferred by people that had used some medical care in that country. Still it is very tough to talk about the number of the death cases. And how is the gene manifested? It is mostly! through gut or urinary infections. By far, the gene has got its name NDM-1, coming from India’s capital New Delhi. It seems like scientists have anticipated this so-called “superbag”, fearing that those fears would come true one day. I am afraid that like all the big epidemics in the late dozens of years, that were created by humans, for the profit of the pharmacological and other industries, these genes have the same genesis. Now, in this case, I am completely sure that some “scientists” are going to invent new type of antibiotics. Three types of bacteria have been involved in the cases from California, Massachusetts and Illinois. Doctors expect big issue and aftermath. It is a matter of time when the bacteria are going to spread faster and wider in the whole world. The basic advice that it is given to people now is to wash their hands properly! Ľudia dnes jazdia ako blázniví. Svojim správaním pripomínajú sebcov, ktorí sa nezaujímajú o nič a nikoho. Jazdia až príliš rýchlo, priam zúrivo a bezohľadne. Ľudia dnes už dokonca nemajú ani problém šoférovať pod vplyvom alkoholu či mäkkých drog! A teraz mi niekto povedzte, aby som si spravila vodičský preukaz! Niekedy sa cítim v aute či autobuse tak nepohodlne, že mám chuť vystúpiť. Denne nás v správach informujú o ďalšej zbytočnej autonehode a o zranených a m&#! 341;tvych ľuďoch. Azda aj preto je jednou z mojich nočných môr účasť na tragickej autonehode. Kým tu však ja panikárim, diaľnice v Spojených štátoch amerických sa pomaly upokojujú. Ako v stredu informoval Dopravný rezort, počet ľudí ročne umierajúcich pri dopravných nehodách klesol na svoju najnižšiu úroveň za posledných 6 desaťročí. Počet smrteľných dopravných nehôd v minulom roku klesol o 9.7 percenta, čo predstavuje najnižšie číslo od roku 1950! „Americké cesty sú bezpečnejšie než kedy boli.“ povedal tajomník Dopravného rezortu Ray LaHood, no pripustil, že „musia byť ešte bezpečnejšie.“ V roku 2008 zomrelo na amerických cestách odhadom okolo 37,423 ľudí, k&#! 253;m v roku 2009 to už bolo 33,808 ľudí. To je! pravdep odobne výsledkom kombinácie používania bezpečnostných pásov, výroby bezpečnejších áut ako aj tvrdšieho uplatňovania zákona o šoférovaní pod vplyvom alkoholu. Bočné airbagy, ktoré chránia hlavu a hrudník alebo elektronický stabilizátor, ktorý pomáha motoristom vyhnúť sa prevrhnutiu auta pri nehode sa stávajú štandardným vybavením na mnohých nových automobiloch. People driving cars these days are crazy. Their behavior reminds me behavior of selfish person who doesn’t care about anything or anyone. They are driving too fast, furious and thoughtless. People have no problem with driving cars under the influence of alcohol or even soft drugs. And now tell me to make my driving license! Priznám sa, po zhliadnutí filmu „Thank you for smoking“ sa ma zmocnil stav agresívnej depresie. Tento film ironicky balansoval na hrance noža, zobrazil šialenstvo a absurditu, moc a zákulisie praktík tabakového priemyslu v Spojených štátoch amerických.Nejde len o zdravie, nejde len o peniaze, ide o moc. Moc ovládať masy.A masy sú kritické len zriedkakedy.Kampane typu, na následky fajčenia dnes zomrie približne 1000 Američanov v pohodlnom dave nevyvolá žiadnu reakciu. Po prvé preto, že nikto tých 1000 ľudí nepozná, nie sú! ; známi, nie sú z okolia, nie sme to my. A pokiaľ sa nenachádzame v stave rakoviny pľúc pokročilého štádia, ťažko si uvedomíme, že nám naozaj niečo hrozí.Po druhé, ľudia si tieto veci neuvedomia, pre chabý marketing týchto kampaní. Kreatívci, ktorí vsadia svoj život a povesť v boji proti fajčeniu sa musia k ľudom približovať na tých najneuveriteľnejších a najprirodzenejších úrovniach. Ale rozprávať o marketingu by sme tu opäť nechceli.Faktom ostáva, že tabakové spoločnosti sú jedny z najmocnejších na svete a povaha fajčenia im ľahko nahráva do karát. Stačí si vychovať „detského zákazníka“ a ten vám bude loajálny po celý život. Aj keď zomrie predčas! ne. Pasívnym fajčením napríklad – deti, ktoré vyrastajú s fajčiarskými rodičmi nemajú na výber – dýchajú ten istý vzduch a postupne nielenže dochádza k predčasnému zhoršeniu zdravia, ale hlavne k pestovaniu latentnej závislosti, ktorá sa môž! ;e vyvinúť do aktívnej závislosti.Najväčšou iróniou je, že v čase, kedy sa snažíme deti chrániť rôznymi, občas nezmyselnými nariadeniami, helmami, pásmi, v čase, kedy rodičov posielame za mreže za páchanie detského násilia v podobe výchovnej facky, v tej istej chvíli na deťoch páchame ďalšie klamstvo.Hovoríme o závislosti, ktorej sa len málokomu podarí naozaj zbaviť. Deti pritom nemajú ozajstnú šancu vybrať si, či budú alebo nebudú fajčiť.Nuž a čerešničkou na torte je pre mňa interview z nejakým tabakovým predákom, či oným devastujúco sexi hercom, ktorí priznajú, že v reálnom svete vlastne nefajčia.Vo viac ako 350 miliónových Spojených štátoch americk! 3;ch žije viac ako 70 miliónov závislých f! ajč iarov. A new phenomenon named “character amnesia” is widespread across China. Young people using modern technology such as cell phones and laptops forget how to write with an ordinary pen. They do remember the shape, but can not remember the strokes to write it down. Chinese are afraid that their ancient writing system will extinct in the future. Young people in Japan are having the same problem as in China. The constant use of computers and cell phones with alphabet-based input systems has made them to forget how to write. Chinese has already found a word for this new phenomenon - “tibiwangzi”, which means “take pen, forget character”. The Chin! a Youth Daily carried out a poll in April which showed that 83 percent out of the 2,072 respondents had problems with writing characters. As a result, people are becoming almost dependent on the and computers. The reason why character amnesia is so spread in China is that the most young people use electronic input systems based on pinyin, that translates Chinese characters into the western Roman alphabet. That means that the users enter each word by pinyin and then the device offers them a menu of characters that match. They only have to recognize and choose the character, they do not need to write it down. In Japan, there are three different writing systems combined into one. And so six doctors, nurses and auxiliary carers who wanted to find their routine pick-me-up experienced the complete opposite. They all complained of nausea and by midday they were found asleep. Just for illustration a single 60 ml dose of Loxapac can make asleep fifteen 90 kg people for a half of the day. Investigators think that the incident is nothing else than just a joke. However, a source near to the enquiry said that playing with such drug is dangerous and simply does not make sense. Police is currently searching for one patient that drank the poisoned coffee before leaving the hospital on Tuesday morning. It was a mother threatened for a psychiatric problems. It seems that the staff room is never locked even though its use should be only for hospital personnel.

Zaujímavá kuriozita sa odohrala v parížskej nemocnici Hôtel-Dieu, kde v utorok šesť členov medického personálu upadlo do hlbokého spánku po tom, čo si dali svoju zvyčajnú šálku kávy. Dôvodom pre upadnutie do spánku bolo požitie silnej antipsychotickej drogy. Správu ako prvý priniesol parížsky denník Le Parisien. Hlboký spánok u pracovníkov nemocnice navyše trval značne dlho. V utorok večer ešte štyria zo šiestich pracovníkov spali tvrdým spánkom. Posledná správa však potv! rdila, že v stredu pred obedom už boli všetci šiesti otrávení zamestnanci pri vedomí. Hoci ich životy neboli priamo ohrozené, francúzska polícia už otvorila kriminálne vyšetrovanie po vinníkovi, spôsobil otravu kávy v parížskej nemocnici. Neznáma osoba naliala do termosky s kávou, ktorá ako zvyčajne bola v miestnosti pre zamestnancov, veľkú fľašku Loxopacu. Preto šiesti lekári, sestričky a pomocný personál, ktorí chceli nájsť v káve svoje každodenné prebudenie, našli pravý opak. Všetci sa najprv sťažovali na nevoľnosť a kým nadišiel obed všetci šiesti tvrdo zaspali. Len pre ilustráciu, jedna 60 mililitrová fľaška Loxopacu dokáže na pol dňa uspať pätnásť 90 kilových ľud&! #237;. Vyšetrovatelia sa domnievajú, že inciden! t nebol nič iné ako iba hlúpy žart. Napriek tomu však zdroj blízky vyšetrovaniu povedal parížskemu denníku, že zahrávanie sa s takouto drogou bol nerozumný nápad, požitie tejto drogy je príliš nebezpečné a nanajvýš riskantné. Polícia teraz hľadá pacientku, ktorá sa v utorok ráno pred odchodom z nemocnice napila z otrávenej kávy. Išlo o matku, ktorá bola liečená na psychiatrické problémy. Zdá sa, že v nemocnici Hôtel-Dieu nie je izba pre personál nikdy zavretá, a to aj napriek tomu má slúžiť výhradne pre potreby zamestnancov.

Moskva, najväčšia ruská metropola už niekoľko týždňov márne bojuje s vlnou horúčav a dymu, ktoré sa na mesto nesú v konštantom vzdušnom prúdení z obrovských požiarov, ktoré pohltili milióny hektárov vidieckej krajiny. Vietor akoby dokonával dielo skazy, vháňal dym do ulíc, verejných prevádzok, ale aj domovov. Podľa doterajších správ sa oblaku nedá uniknúť. Situácia je zúfalá, kto môže, opúšťa mesto. Len nedeľná prevádzka na moskovských le! tiskách zaznamenala rekord – 104,000 pasažierov opúšťajúcich mesto počas 24 hodín. Bežná prevádzka sa pohybuje niekde okolo 70,000. Ale nie každý má to šťastie, aby mesto opustil. Ľudia, ktorí ostávajú sa pred dymom a teplotami chránia ako môžu – rúškami, ktoré nosia celé dni na tvárach, neopúšťajú domovy, pokiaľ nemusia a v noci, kedy sa teplota stále pohybuje okolo 30 stupňov, mnohí spávajú na balkónoch. Nemocnice sú preplnené a lekárskej pomoci sa sťažka dostane aj najťažším prípadom. Zvyšní pacienti na hospitalizáciu nemôžu ani myslieť. Tlačový zdroj Kommersant daily dnes zverejnil popísal podmienky, ktoré v nemocniciach panujú. Chirurga, ktorý si želal! ostať v anonymite poukazoval na nefungujúcu klimati! zác iu, ktorá v bežných prípadoch funguje len na prízemiach a administratívnych častiach budov, pričom teplota na operačných sálach sa opäť pohybuje okolo tridsiatky. Horúčavy nechávaju stopy nielen na pacientoch, ale ovplyvňujú výkony doktorov a celého personálu. Dnes však moskovské úrady zverejnili najväčšie prekvapenie – počet doterajších úmrtí a dennú úmrtnosť v meste. Čísla prišli po niekoľko dennom informačnom embargu, ktoré pobúrilo ako Rusov, tak medzinárodné spoločenstvo. Podľa oficiálnych správ v Moskve denne zomrie okolo 700 ľudí. Podľa šéfa mestského odboru pre zdravie Andreia Seltsovského sa bežná denná úmrtnosť pohybuje okolo 360-380 prípadov. Počet sa t! eda takmer zdvojnásobil. People are protecting against the heat and smudge every possible way – the temperatures during the night still reach over 30 degrees, so many are sleeping on their balconies, wear masks and try to avoid of leaving homes. Hospitals are in the state of emergency and doctors are able to deal only with the most extreme cases, everyone else is sent back home. The conditions are according newspaper Kommersant daily, dramatic – temperatures exceed 30 degrees in the operating room. Exhausted from the heat are patients as well as doctors and medical staff. Here we come to the biggest and the worst surprise, official death toll has been released after several days of silence. Daily death rate in the city reaches up to 700 cases. Potrivit specialistilor britanici 3 din 100 ! de persoane care au contractat boala mor daca nu au primit vaccinul. Prin urmare, este imperios necesar pentru copii sa fie vaccinati. Humans are the ultimate beings on the chain of evolution. We consider ourselves superiors to the animals because we have reason, conscience and we wear clothes. However, the so called reason we have instead of being an advantage is usually leading to our perdition. Apparently even the cures we invent can be deadly or at least destructive. The latest scandal involves the measles vaccine that is mostly used in USA and England. It is obscure that in countries like Romania, where children don’t usually receive the vaccine, there hasn’t been reported any death from the dreadful disease. According! to the British specialists 3 in 100 people who contracted the disease die if they have not received the vaccine. Thus it is imperious necessary for children to be vaccinated. Dr. Andrew Wakefield did a study- illegal or not it has no importance whatsoever- that showed the vaccine can cause autism. Instead of doing further research on the discovery and assure themselves that indeed the pharmaceutical cure is not faulty, the other doctors did their best to discredit Dr Wakefield. They even went as far as withdrawing his medical license which, however, will not make the doubts disappear. In fact more and more parents are refusing to do the vaccine and no matter how much measles cases they show on TV, the parents won’t take the chance. No one denies that the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine is doing a lot of good, but from experience, doctors know that most drugs have negative effects too and! some children might have a condition that would be aggravated! by the vaccine. The fact that we have different bodies and internal processes, would recommend for the doctors to do some checkups before vaccinating a child. Treating the children as being the same all over the world and applying the same cure without taking into account the differences is actually supporting Dr Wakefield’s theory.

It's neither new, nor surprising fact for us that the lack of sleep considerably affect our performance the next day. And we know it's not ending the next day, because more older we are, the more affected we are. I remeber when I was 16 and I was able to stay in the school, have three meetings after it, have my piano lesson, then to walk to the nearest hill to see the sunset and then spend all night on party. Sometimes I was sleeping an hour, sometimes not, and still I was able to continue in relatively normal conditions the next day. Oh, those were the days of my life. I wasn't addicted to cafe which I am still not, but I could work like this two or three days. Now, I am 2! 3 and although I am very hardworking person, I can't repeat such performance. I can't even stay awake all night long – maximum once in a month. But the next day I see my energy hits very average performance. Still, there are people who can live like this for ages. I don't speak primarily of party animals, there are workoholics and people who can't relax. It is not normal to work 18 hours a day, it's not sustainable to be online 24/7 even if we find it our daily reality.Sleep is the best cure, says the old saying. During the sleep we balance our energy levels, our bodies are regenerating and we slow down the aging process. There is no such alternative to sleep for us. Medicaments, energy drinks, stimulants are not working. They activate body for short time, but the amount of exhaustion is deepening. The body defends in every possible way. No wonder we are more often hungry, we desire sweets. The body seeks for energy source. But after this period, aging process explode! s. Have you seen your skin after a day of not sleeping? Have y! ou seen the dull shine of your eyes after such day? You seemed older and no make up could cover that.You felt tired, your heartbeat was too high or too low, sometimes not in the rhytm. Few days before the senators are going to vote for the health care bill, President Barack Obama, for whom this law was one of the crucial in his campaign, he signed the bill yesterday. He pronounces “a new season in America”. Such battered words are not going to cover the malcontent of his people, and that’s why his popularity falls every day, more and more. Before the official vote, some points of the law, are still provoking dilemmas and debates among the senators. This law includes more expensive subsidies for people that earn less, offers bigger help for older people, when it comes to drug prescriptions. One hundred senators are about to vote for th! e law. Democrats seat on 59 chairs. The law is going to be brought with a simple majority, and not with the usual 60 votes. Republicans biggest fact why shouldn’t this bill be accepted are that it is going to increase the taxes and that it shouldn’t be obliged. They have a lot of amendments to add and that might complicate the complete version of the fix-it bill, and return it back to the White House and then back to the Senate. And normally, in politics there are a lot of games and a lot of deals if a politician wants to gain something. For example, Obama wanted to sign an order affirming the law against federal funding of abortions, only in the cases of rape, incest or danger to the woman's life. But few anti-abortion Democrates threatened not to vote for the health care bill, so Obama moved his amends of the law. I guess this is nothing strange, because every vote counts. The plan with the new health care bill is about 32 million Americans to get insurance ! over the next decade.

American President Obama signed down the healthcare reform. As it was expected he would not stop until he got it passed. For the country it is the the real change. When we consider American public wasn't really into climate change, the world policy, the change of values had to explode somewhere else - domestic issues – apart Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan military problems it was a bubble called healthcare reform. Critics and defenders totally agreed, the change was needed, but that was where the common sense ended. The case became a political issue, media bubble and the public was usually led into the chaos and misunderstanding. The fight for the proposal wasn't fair at all! , one could have seen the worst accusations from mouth of those robbing the country the most. Most of the critics have already been profiting from war, oil industry in the Middle East and tried to avoid the attraction by shouting and pointing at someone else's problem.But Democrats were not playing better at all – one can still remember low minded ads overwhelming TV, billboards and newspapers. They produced massive campaign not to make the public know about the details of reform, they made a campaign by accusing the other side. It was more personal than political fight.And by that they were playing politics of the dead bug – by not listening to the public, not commenting, not publishing any information till the very last moment.Right now, the paper has been passed – and it comes to the breaking point – the change in the minds of the people.Living in Europe, it's normal to be insured from birth to death. Everyone get's federal insurance covering basi! c healthcare. The exceptional steps are funded by additional p! ersonal insurance and personal investments. Of course there have been always problems with the list of sickness and medicaments that were supposed to be covered and which not, with the bureaucracy and low level of medicare somewhere – but the idea of being covered was mutual. There has been never a fight against the common service. Ever.If you read public reactions over internet, you can see it is more philosophical – mostly uneducated users say they don't want to pay for other people, no matter in what conditions. The idea of common sense seems to be very unusual, I would say, evil in their eyes. I feel there's the policy of paying for every aspect of one's life, so people were just used to cover every surgeon, step and medicare with a check – now they don't want to pay for the group, for society.Yes, emotions! Some say it was the attack on American ambitions and sense of profit. Some say it was the attack on privacy and decision freedom. Everyone say it would not! pay more for society.But if these people were raised taxes without significant reason, they would all shut up and followed. The arguments of filling someone else's pockets is certainly not relevant – the insurance companies have already been profiting on this system. And these very same people have been filling the pockets of high society group for decades. They have the right to be angry, but they should be educated and tolerant. To realize the facts and their political leaders.For me it is also a miracle the fact of having just two and two(!) main groups in Congress for centuries. Too much simplification, too many layers of history and tradition to cover the malfunction of that system. While beating the opposite, the real problem or the solution disappears. If people would realize this point, one could have seen the biggest change in American history ever.

Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by mycobacteria which usually attacks the lungs. It is spread through air, so when one person has the disease and he coughs or sneezes while traveling on the bus or subway, anyone who gets in touch with that person can be infected as well. Even though the times when this disease was a major cause of death and illness are already gone, it can still result in death – especially when the disease is left untreated. TB kills more than 50 percent of its victims. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported this week the nation’s tuberculosis rate dropped more than 11 percent. In comparison with last years, when t! he TB rates have been falling generally about 4 percent, this is the largest single-year decrease in more than 50 years. Such a big drop was unexpected and so the experts are cautious about celebrating. Although final report is due in the fall, some factors which caused this drop are already known. First of all stepped up screening and treatment of immigrants can be responsible for this drop. Screening them before they leave their native countries can significantly decrease the number of infected people. The screening changes were made in 2007 and they guarantee that any immigrant suspected of having TB will be completely tested and will also receive at least 6 months of treatment. Development of antibiotics and public health efforts could be other factors which influenced decrease of TB rates. And decrease from 4.2 cases per 100,000 people to 3.8 is significant indeed.

"While decreasing fat is certainly a good thing, replacing it with sugar and salt isn't," she urged. Earlier this year the First Lady also agreed to promote Healthy Food Financing Initiative, which aims at delivering fresh, healthy and nutritious food to all urban and rural communities that has been missed out so far, and all that in seven years. According to the collected date nearly one in four Californians under age 65 lacked health insurance during at least part of last year. Maybe for some of you will these statistics be shocking, but it is better to live in real world, don’t you think? When the University of California compared the figures from the past few years results shocked also researchers. While in 2007 there were 6.4 million of Californians with no insurance, in two last years the number increased 25 percent to 8.2 million uninsured people. As Shana Alex Lavarreda, one of the study&! #8217;s authors told Reuters: “We expected to see some increase, certainly, but one of this magnitude was quite surprising.” As Lavarreda added a system that was straining for long time finally broke in 2009. Increase of people with no insurance is connected with recession. Soaring job losses and also drop in employer-provided coverage were recession’s direct consequences. Working-age adults – between 18 and 65 years, represent group where nearly one in three is uninsured. That makes from California undoubtedly the nation with the highest number of uninsured in any single state. During the past two years, the proportion of Californians covered by state healthcare program increased from 15.3 to 16.5 percent. The study showed that even though federal government offered subsidies to laid-off workers, 62 percent of those who lost their job-based health benefits were forced to seek coverage from other sources or became uninsured.

Kalifornia je tak bezpochyby národom s najvyšším počtom nepoistených ľudí zo všetkých amerických štátov. V priebehu posledných dvoch rokov sa percento Kalifornčanov krytých štátnym zdravotníckym programom zvýšilo z 15.3 na 16.5 percent, no v porovnaní so zvyšujúcim sa počtom nepoistených ľudí je to nič. Štúdia ukazuje, že i napriek štátnej pomoci vo forme príspevkov pre robotníkov, ktorí stratili zamestnanie až 62 percent tých, ktorí stratili prácu, je nútených hľadať poistné krytie v inde, príp. zostať nepoistený.

I woke up this morning and saw Chilean people living in the tents on the public lawns, squares, everywhere on open spaces. The absurdity of this picture was increased by the amount of empty buildings surrounding them. But nobody entered. If you demand the answer – you would better imagine the earthquake of 8.8 magnitude, then massive tsunami destroying several tens of coastal villages, then the organization chaos and striving. No supplies, no electricity.Three days in a moving chaos – then tsunami again. As before – unexpected or better said – uninformed. Tsunami, followed by the earthquakes between 6.7-7.2 magnitude caused hysteria among the survivo! rs. With every shake, people are running to open spaces, far from buildings and the coast. It is also a difficult situation for real-estate sector. Although owners of disturbed buildings promise the reconstruction, lodgers are precarious and don't want to live there. A lot of people are leaving sites. What is left behind is corrupted areas with soon to collapse buildings. It seems the area is being rewritten again. But what a price! Chilean disaster caused great portion of shock and chaos in the country. More than 24 after the catastrophe there were only 100 soldiers on the sites. The food and information connection has been cut. President Michelle Bachelet called for help with one day delay. The number of victims has exceeded 800, yet counted economic waste summed 15 billion dollars. The environmental damage remains uncounted.Earthquake and striking tsunami are the cause of massive leaving of coastal regions. What remains is a no men's land. People are leaving – who ! is going to stay for reconstruction?One does imagine the enorm! ous effo rts to bring it back to life.

There's no doubt Democrats are having hard times since they lost its 60 votes in the Congress. The health care reform seems to be in danger. The talks didn't work out since December's passage in Senate. Both parties were sure to not to step back. But what result can one get if there's noone to propose and agree on compromise. We have heard president Obama was doing everything possible just to pass the reform. He even dropped the idea of creating Federal Insurance company for partly control of private insurance companies. The talks have been speeded up. President Obama called for televised summit on Thursday. Both parties agreed this meeting was not going to change a thing.! Among invited Republicans are Sen. John McCain of Arizona to join Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. McCain was one of the sharpest critics of the reform. None of Republicans who showed interest in bipartisan collaboration was included. According to McConnel, Republicans showed satisfaction being invited but he was missing the purpose of the setting. Democrats didn't hide the offensive strategy depicting Republican's alternatives as wage and unworking. It seems to be a bit strange, but it suddenly occured to me. The mood has been perfectly depicted in recent movie: ''Thank you for smoking''. The point was not to persuade your opponent about your truth, the point was to make him looking confused and attact the audience. But the reform has to be passed. Obama knows it. According his allies he will try to influence some of 39 Democrats who voted against the bill in November. They argued the reform was missing the public insurance alternative to compete with private compan! ies.

The swine flu epidemic killed hundreds of people in France and in the middle of January a group of doctors monitoring the epidemic in mainland France said that it has ended. According to the World health Organisation, swine flu has killed at least 12,799 people worldwide since it was first recognized in Mexico in March 2009. The Americas were hit by the swine flu the strongest as it keeps reporting the biggest number of casualties with at least 6,880 deaths. In Europe, at least 2,554 people have died from the swine flu. Thierry Blanchon, one of the doctors of the Sentinelles flu monitoring network, was the one who officially announced the end of the epidemic in France! . The reason for the announce is the fact that the number of people infected by swine flu has fallen bellow the epidemic level. After the number of infected patients stayed bellow the epidemic level for the two weeks, the doctors decided to announce the end of the epidemic in France. However, the vaccinations will continue as the doctors advice people to get vaccinated as it is important to prevent a resurgence of the tricky H1N1 flu virus. Health authorities warn people not to underestimate the importance of the vaccination. So far, the swine flu has killed 240 people in France. French government bought 94 million vaccines against swine flu and they need to be used. Both press and public want Health Minister Roselyne Bachelot to resign as she overestimated the need for vaccine. It seems that swine flu is easing in England as well. The British government said in its weekly swine flu briefings that the flu crisis has decreased dramatically.

Mercredi un groupe des médecins contrôlant a dit que l'épidémie a fini. Les médecins recommandent toujours de continuer le programme de vaccination pour ne pas laisser la grippe revenir. L'un des médecins du réseau Sentinelles surveillant la grippe, Thierry Blanchon, a annoncé que finalement c'était la fin de l'épidémie. Les médecins ont dit que le nombre de personnes infectées par le virus est tombé au-dessous du niveau épidémique pendant les dernières deux semaines. Bien que le virus s'écarte toujours, ce n'est qu'au rythme très faible. La vaccination continuera longtemps à l'avenir pour empêcher une réapparition du virus. En outre, le gouvernement français a acheté ! 94 millions de doses de vaccin qui doivent être employées. La presse et les politiciens exigent la démission du ministre de santé Roselyne Bachelot dû à sa surestimation du besoin de vaccin. Questions we ask about every alternative source of energy is its effectivity, price and environmental impact. Although one realize that most of alternative energies can't meet the level of such effectivity (the quantity of provided energy), the research is not stopping.Today we focus on biofuels. We have heard of palm oil or animal faeces, but this time it can be a simple plant generating the energy. The same plants that caused the evolution of the oil in the oceans. Algae. Microalgae, the Spanish company from Alicante is developing its second plant for generating energy from greens. The mechanisms remains of huge cylinders filled with the water and algae. Carbon Dioxide a! nd the sun creates the food for the plant. Algae increases its number with the increasing amount of CO2, so at the end of the day, half empty cylinder generates 100 percent of its volume. The algae is then dried up and converted into the oily liquid. The liquid smells of petroleum and being burnt it creates relatively comparative amount of the energy. Here, let's add some more facts – The factory can create 12 tons of algae per day. 12 tons is equal to 600 barrels of energetic liquid that can generate the electricity for 20, 000 people. The question remains of its environmental impact that is higher than water or wind factories. Carbon absorbed by the plant is being burned and returns back to the atmosphere. The emissions are increasing. The only advantage of such electricity making is a sustainable energy source. Basically you can grow algae everywhere. The answer to the question whether it can cover man's energy need is negative. It can't. But it is more sustainable! when you're thinking in regional dimensions.

It is few days what I have read somewhere on the internet an article or blog about swine flu and new arising questions connected with it. Some people were asking if it was real, if it was really so dangerous that we could die on it. Some of them were also questioning the necessity of vaccination. First panic was replaced by lack of interest on one side and anger on the other side. Most of the people are not afraid anymore. They were just oversaturated by totally different views and information. Danger of infection lost its power among the people as most of the world’s governments were not able to fight against swine flu effectively. The info lines were not working, th! e information about effects of vaccine were confusing etc. People get angry and then lost their interest in this matter. On the other side there are politicians trying to solve the question of vaccination: to be or not to be vaccinated. A new problem arose in France. Last summer, when the country was preparing for a flu epidemic, the government purchased 94 million doses for 869 million Euros. It was enough for 100 % of the population. Now, when only 5 million of people got vaccinated, there are too many surplus swine flu vaccines. That’s why France seeks buyers. Many politicians and scientists are pointing at the campaign which cost nearly 2 billion Euros, what represents three times bigger amount of money than is allocated for cancer research in a four-year period. But is it all about money? I think the biggest irony is that French government has to face jeering for (actually praiseworthy) attempt to protect every single inhabitant of France.

The swine flu epidemic in mainland France has killed hundreds people, health authorities say it killed 240 people. On Wednesday a monitoring group of doctors said the epidemic has ended. The doctors still recommend continuing the vaccination program to not allow flu to come back. One of the doctors of the Sentinelles flu monitoring network, Thierry Blanchon, announced that finally it was the end of the epidemic. Doctors said that the number of people infected by virus has fallen below the epidemic level for the past two weeks. Although the virus is still spreading, it is at very weak pace. Vaccination will continue long into the future to prevent a resurgence of the virus. In addition, French government bought 94 million of doses with vaccine which need to be used. Press and politicians are demanding the resignation of Health Minister Roselyne Bachelot due to her overestimation of the need for vaccine. Medical experts advised two doses of vaccine per person and Bachel! ot agreed to buy the amount. National Health system in France is different than in other countries. In France patients pay for health care and later their health insurance refund them the cost. If everybody took vaccine, the French government would have a huge bill, not only to pay for vaccine but also to pay for a visit to the doctor. Since the vaccination campaign started late in October, 5 million people have been vaccinated. First days, vaccination centers were empty, but then the vaccination hysteria boosted. Newspapers were full of articles with disaster scenario. Today it seems that everything is coming back to normal.

800 tisíc flaštičiek vakcíny proti chrípke H1N1 pre deti nie je dosť silných a preto výrobca Sanofi-Aventis SA žiada fľaštičky poslať späť. Americké Centrum pre choroby a prevenciu (CDC) žiada ľudí, aby zachovali pokoj. Centrum tvrdí, že nie deťom, ktoré boli zaočkované nehrozí žiadne bezpečnostné riziko, ani nepotrebujú byť opätovne očkované. CDC v špeciálnej správe informovalo štát, lokálne zdravotné stanice, lekárov i verejnosť o problematickej vakcín! e, ktorá bola určená pre deti mladšie než tri roky. Hovorca CDC povedal, že približne 800 tisíc flaštičiek tejto vakcíny už bolo distribuovaných a teraz sa nachádzajú v predajniach a u lekárov. CDC povedalo, že chyba sa zistila počas bezpečnostného testu kvality. Spoločnosť okamžite informovala americkú Správu potravín liečiv (FDA). Fľaštičky s chybnou vakcínou sa distribuovali v novembri a nemali žiadne špeciálne miesto určenia, preto je ich teraz ťažké lokalizovať. Obsah antigénu vo fľaštičkách je nižší ako limit pre tento produkt. CDC spolu s FDA sa zhodli na tom, že vakcína s menším množstvom antigénu neoslabí imunitu ľudí, ktorí ňou boli zaočkovaní. Vakcína proti prasacej chrípke bola už veľmi kritizovaná, verejnosť jej stále celkom neverí a mnoho rodičov ani nedovolilo svoje deti v školách zaočkovať. Ľudia sa stále boja vedľajších účinkov látky a vakcína je pre nich cudzím, dostatočne nevyskúšaným liekom. Týmto posledným incidentom si vakcína dôveru ľudí určite nezískala.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ask people to do not panic as there is no safety concern and the CDC said children who have already been vaccinated from it do not need to be vaccinated again. The CDC sent a special message to state and local health officers, public information officers and doctors' groups in which they stated that the affected vaccines were for children under age 3. A spokesman of CDC told reporters that about 800 thousands doses of the affected vaccine have already been distributed ! to providers. The CDC said that the mistake was recognized by quality assurance testing program. The company immediately informed the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The lots with affected vaccines, which were distributed in November, did not have any specific destination. The antigen content in the lots is below the limit for the product. Therefore both CDC and FDA agreed that the small decrease in antigen content will not cause any significant reduction in immune among people who have been vaccinated from the lots. The U.S. had difficulty to get enough vaccine to people, because to many people wanted it and companies were not able to make it quickly. The CDC said that swine flu has killed 10,00 Americans since March and 200,000 people were hospitalized. The vaccines against swine flu have been criticized a lot, public still do not believe it completely and many parents do not allow their children to be vaccinated in schools. This incident definitely did not! gain trust of people.

But there are some critics who said that Tamiflu which should stop the flu complications is not enough effective. British researchers looked at Tamiflu and reviewed the health information. They said that there are not enough arguments which would prove that Tamiflu reduces complications like pneumonia. They just confirmed that this drug ! shortens flu symptoms about a day. They warn that benefits of Tamiflu are not sufficient and they emphasize the side effects. British researchers looked at Tamiflu as it is used for seasonal flu but with their conclusion they raised question if Tamiflu is a good medicine for swine flu. Maybe you ask yourself how this is possible. The governments spent so much money for research. But World Helath Organization did not agree with this conclusion. They collected data from countries all around the world and they claim that Tamiflu can reduce the severity of swine flu symptoms, but they agree that this drug should not be for people at risk like pregnant women, older people, children or people who have chronical medical disease. WHO said that there are fewer hospitalizations and deaths. WHO recommends that this drug should be used only on doctor´s recommendation.

Najlepší možný spôsob, ako to robiť, je navštíviť doktora už pri prvých príznakoch chrípky. A teraz nezáleží na tom, či hovoríme o sezónnej chrípke alebo prasacej. Obidve môžu byť pre nás veľmi nebezpečné a bohužiaľ aj smrteľné. Objavili sa však kritici, ktorí tvrdi! a, že Tamiflu, ktoré ma slúžiť na zastavenie chrípkových komplikácií, nie je veľmi účinný liek. Britskí výskumníci sa pozreli bližšie na Tamiflu a analyzovali informácie o zdravotnom stave pacientov. Základné činnosti ako napríklad obliekanie či umývanie už nie sú jednoduchou záležitosťou, ktorú sami zvládnete. Ste závislí na pomoci ostatných, čo je azda ešte horšie ako samotný fakt, že máte už len jednu končatinu. Mám pre vás však dobrú správu, ktorá je výsledko! m niekoľko ročnej snahy vedcov. Mechanická ruka, ktorá sa dá ovládať pomocou ľudskej mysle! Pierpaolo Petruzziello, 26-ročný Talian, ktorý stratil predlaktie ľavej ruky pri ťažkej autonehode bol napojený na túto robotickú ruku a to viac ako úspešne! Táto protéza sa dala jednoducho ovládať, a to nebola ani celkom implantovaná. Ako teda funguje? Jednoducho: pripojením elektród na nervový systém pacienta. A výsledok? Ten bol k neuvereniu! V priebehu jedného mesiaca dokázal Pierpaolo hýbať prstami na robotickej ruke, zatvoriť ju do päste či uchopiť rôzne predmety. Európski vedci, ktorí viedli tento projekt povedali, že je to po prvý raz, čo sa pacientovi podarilo urobiť taký komplex pohybov použitím vlastnej mysle a myšlienok. „Niektor&! #233; gestá nemôžu byť ukázané, ! preto 82;e boli dosť vulgárne,“ žartoval Paolo M. Robotic hand which can be controlled with thoughts! Pierpaolo Petruzziello, 26-year-old Italian who lost his left forearm in a car crash was linked to a robotic hand and this connecting was successful! Robotic hand was easily! controlled even it was not attached to his body. The prosthetic was not implanted on the patient, only connected through the electrodes. But the results are overwhelming anyway! During one month Pierpaolo could wiggle robotic fingers, make a fist or grab objects. European scientists leading this project said this was the first time a patient had been able to make such complex movements by using his own mind! “Some of the gestures cannot be disclosed because they were quite vulgar,” joked Paolo Maria Rossini, a neurologist who led the team. And there is really a reason for joking and joy! The investment of 2 million Euro from the European Union was really worth it. Patient was able to master use of the robotic hand in a few days and at the end of a month the hand obeyed the commands it received from the man’s brain in 95 percent of cases! That is incredible success and really great news for everyone who has similar handicap. Hoci má prasacia chrípka na svedomí od apríla štyri tisíc mŕtvy, neznamená to, že sa situácia rapídne zhoršila. Od apríla sa prasacou chrípkou nakazilo 22 miliónov Američanov a zomrelo 540 detí. A to je iba začiatok chrípkového obdobia. Lekári, nanešťastie očakávajú, že tieto čísla budú ďalej narastať. Napriek tomu však väčšina prípadov nevyžaduje lekársku starostlivosť. Choroba sa rýchlo šíri aj vďaka nedostatočnými zásobami. Momentá! lne je dostupných o niekoľko miliónov menej vakcín než minulý týždeň avizovalo CDC, Centrum pre kontrolu chorôb a prevenciu. Asi jeden zo šiestich rodičov dal zaočkovať aspoň niektoré zo svojich detí proti prasacej chrípke. 14 percent rodičov však nedokázalo pre svoje deti zohnať vakcínu. Bežne sa počas chrípkovej sezóny zaočkuje iba približne 30 percent detí. Avšak tento rok nie je zaočkovaných viac detí, a to aj napriek tomu, že prasacia chrípka zasahuje hlavne deti a mladých ľudí. Dôvodom je nedostatok vakcíny. Nehovoriac o tom, že tisíce dospelých ľudí sa snažia zohnať vakcínu pre seba, avšak neúspešne. CDC však prosí ľudí, aby ostali pokojní a dodáva, že je objednaných ! viac vakcín, ktoré sú doručované ka&#! 382;d 53; deň. Podľa nových správ bolo od apríla hospitalizovaných na prasaciu chrípku v Amerike 98 tisíc ľudí, deti z toho predstavovali 36 tisíc. Obyčajne je v Amerike na chrípku počas chrípkovej sezóny hospitalizovaných približne 200 tisíc ľudí a chrípka spôsobí 36 tisíc úmrtí. Chrípka normálne zasahuje hlavne ľudí nad 65 rokov. Tieto čísla určite ovlpyvnia verejnosť, ktorá doteraz prasaciu chrípku nevnímala ako veľkú hrozbu. Hoci prasacia chrípka zasahuje deti i mladých dospelých, iba 16 percent ľudí vo veku 18 až 29 rokov sa doteraz snažila získať vakcínu.

Furthermore, since April swine flu has sickened about 22 million Americans and killed about 540 children and it is only early in the season. Doctors are expecting that these numbers will, unfortunately, continue to rise. However, most cases still do not require a doctor's care. The illness spreads fast also because of tight supplies of vaccine. There is currently a few million less doses of vaccine than CDC, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, announced last week. Nearly 1 in 6 parents has gotten vaccinated some of their children against sw! ine flu. 14 percents of parents could not find any vaccine for their children. Normally during a winter, only about 30 percent of children get vaccinated against flu. But it seems it is not higher number this year, even though the new flu sicken mainly children and young people. The reason? Shortage of vaccine. There are thousands of adults trying to find vaccine for themselves, but they do not succeed. CDC asks people to be patient and urges that more vaccine is ordered and delivered every day. New report say since April 98,000 people in USA have been hospitalized from swine flu, children represented 36,000. Normally, seasonal flu cause 200,000 hospitalizations and 36,000 deaths in U.S. The flu infects mainly people over 65. These estimates will definitely effect public which views swine flu as not a big threat. Although swine flu targets young adults, only 16 percent of people aged 18 – 29 were trying to get vaccine.

The number one topic of U.S. Department of Education is closing the schools for few days to prevent the swine flu and to isolate students from this illness. As the number of ill students is growing continuesly, some schools believe that temporary closing is the best way, the only thing they can do. The Federal Government ordered schools to close up only as the last solution, but schol officials are so afraid of fast spreading virus H1N1 that they feel they are doing the right thing. At least, 351 schools were closed last week- this single act affects 126,000 students in 19 states. But this schol year all together, already 600 schools have temporarily shut their doors for! a shorter period. "There was nothing else we could do," says Michael Frechete, the superintendent of Connecticut´s Middletown Public Schools, where at the beggining of the week 120 students stayed home sick of flu and another 25 students were sent home that day. "The only way to stop that transmittal was to keep the kids home for the rest of the week." There are people who believe that closing schools is a reasonable case, because of close proximity to each other, which can help the flu to spread. On the other hand, not everybody thinks this is the way to win. Especially in some low-income families, which depend on free meal for pupils, parents just cannot stay at home with children. There is also other thing. Julie Pryde, administrator at Illinois Champaign- Urbana Public Health District, says: "If kids were isolated in their homes it may help. But kids congregate at malls, at each other's homes, they go to movies — and that is not helpful."

Podľa sľubov zo strany vlády malo byť momentálne dostupných 120 miliónov očkovacích dávok. Napriek tomu ich je len 13 miliónov. Od vypuknutia epidémie v apríli v Mexiku zomrelo kvôli vírusu H1N1 v Spojených štátoch približne 800 ľudí, z toho 86 detí. Očkovacie zariadenie po celej krajine sú viac než preplnené v týchto d&! #328;och. By now 120 million doses of the vaccine should have been available according to the government´s schedule. However, there are only 13 million of them so far. Since the break out of the pandemic in April in Mexico about 800 people have died of the H1N1 virus in the United States, 86 of these being children. The inoculation clinics throughout the country are more than crowded these days. Long lines of worried parents and their offspring fill the waiting rooms. "It doesn't look like we're going to be able to make the estimates we had projected by the end of t! his month," said Anne Schuchat, a senior official at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), referring to the plans for 40 million doses of the vaccine by the end of October. Now the number from 28 to 30 million seems more likely. The reason for the delay is most probably the variety of different tests to which vaccine has to be subjected before handed over to clinics. Also the chicken egg method due to which the vaccine has been produced is under the fire of doubts and speculations. The technology is about 50 years old and takes some time. Tím odborníkov publikoval svoju správu v americkom vedeckom časopise American Journal of Roentgenology a radí čo najskôr podrobiť pacientov trpiacich na vírus H1N1 röntgenovým testom a testom CT skenerom. Podľa odborníkov je prasacia chrípka navyše prefíkaná a v ťažkých prípadoch je veľmi náročné ju správne diagnostikovať. Hoci ! pandemické ochorenie vírusom H1N1 nie je smrteľné, zasahuje hlavne deti a mladých dospelých, ktorí sa normánle bežnej chrípke vyhnú. Vďaka novej správe však lekári budú vedieť u pacientov lepšie rozoznať pandemické ochorenie a budú vedieť navrhnúť vhodné diagnostické testy. Jednému mužovi, ktorý na prasaciu chrípku zomrel, diagnostikovali lekári ochorenie až po jeho smrti, keď na röntgene jeho pľúc objavili nezvyčajné nálezy. Toto zistenie však pomohlo do budúcnosti lekárom správne diagnostikovať pacientov s podobnými ťažkosťami. Muž bol vážne chorý a mal teplotu, avšak jeho testy na chrípku boli negatívne, preto ho na ňu lekári ani neliečili. Po piatich dňoch v nemocnici pacien! t zomrel. Lekári následne objavili, že jeho p&#! 318; 0;ca napadol vírus. V ďalšej štúdi odborníci testovali pacientov s ťažkým ochorením prasacej chrípky. Testy potvrdili, že mnohí pacienti trpeli na pľúcnu embóliu, ktorá blokuje artérie v pľúcach. Existuju anticoagulantné lieky, ktoré rozpúšťajú zrazeniny v krvi a dokážu tak zachrániť pacientom život. Tím lekárov previedol röntgenové testy a CT testy na 66 pacientoch s ochorením H1N1. 14 pacienti boli na jednotke intenzívnej starostlivosti. Podľa štúdie sú pacienti s ochorením prasacej chrípky viac náchylní na pľúcnu embóliu. Ide o dôležité zistenie, ktoré môže zachrániť mnoho život. Normálne totiť chrípku nesprevádza pľúcna embólia.

The researchers published two studies in the American Journal of Roentgenology and say there is need to check X-rays and CT scans for these unusual features. Furthermore they warn that swine flu can be tricky to diagnose in some of the sickest patients. Although the new pandemic H1N1 flu is not deadly it is sickening mostly children and young adults who are usually not effected by seasonal flu. Internet bol preto zavalení desiatkami informačných videí a noviny zasa plné poučných článkov o tom, aké sú sprievodné symptómy a čo robiť ak ich na sebe náhodou zbadáte. Vždy sa však nájde menšina, ktorá za symptómy pov! ažuje obyčajný kašeľ či kýchanie, a tak opäť došlo k panike. Teraz však už konečne nastal čas na očkovanie, no otázkou najnovšie je: bojíme sa viac chrípky či vakcíny? Prípad z roku 1976 je pomerne odstrašujúcim varovaní.
